Women in Real Estate: Joan Docktor

Charles Williams | January 8, 2021

As apart of our Women in Real Estate series, we are honoring Joan Docktor of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach. Joan shared with us her inspirational thoughts on what it takes to be successful!

The resilience and hard work of committed sales professionals have carried our industry through this unprecedented year. Our goal at BHHS Fox & Roach during the pandemic has been to focus on continuing to provide clients with the best, safest experience possible. We did that by utilizing our best-in-class technology and providing consistent education, so that our sales professionals could adeptly use all of the tools at their fingertips for virtual open houses, virtual listings presentations, and more.

As we continue to settle into the “new normal” in 2021, I believe it is very important to stay comfortable conducting business virtually, in addition to in-person business. The virtual world of real estate is here to stay. Our sales professionals have pivoted to this new normal so that there are now no limitations for their business. I always say, “In difficult times, there are champions, survivors, and victims. Don’t allow yourself to be in the last category.”

My advice for those who aspire to be leaders in the future is to never stop learning, to help others (let yourself be lifted up by lifting others up!), and to work to position yourself as indispensable.

Joan Docktor serves as the President of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach, REALTORS®, the largest single market brokerage in the U.S. — serving Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware with 75+ sales offices, 5,500+ sales associates, and 700+ employees. The company has ranked #1 in the network consecutively since 2015.

Joan is the VP of the Board of Trustees of Fox & Roach/Trident Charities. She is a member of The Realty Alliance and served on their Board from 2013 to 2018. She is Vice Chairperson of both the Board of Directors for Bright MLS and NAR’s 2020 Real Estate Services Advisory Group (will be appointed Chairperson in 2021).
